As the holidays approach, you may be looking for things to do in the city. Thankfully, the Candlelight series has an entire lineup planned for you, at the heart of the breathtaking First Baptist Church in Ottawa.
First Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches to set foot in the city. It was originally founded in 1836 and in 1855 (when Bytown became Ottawa!), the location became a meeting spot for prayer and consultation amongst a group of Baptists. The Ottawa Baptist Association later inaugurated First Baptist Church as simply that — the first Baptist church in the city. The building is a significant monument in Ottawa’s history, and its gorgeous ceiling fixtures, stunning organ and stained glass make for the ideal Candlelight venue.
Starting in December, Candlelight brings a variety of concerts to First Baptist Church. On December 2 and 20, the Listeso String Quartet will grace the venue’s stage with renditions of the master Vivaldi and his Four Seasons. Throughout the month, you’ll also get to enjoy a tribute to Ludovico Einaudi, a tribute to Queen, ABBA, Adele, and the best of Hans Zimmer. Right on time for the season, a holiday special featuring “The Nutcracker” and more will bring Christmas tunes to life. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “The First Noël,” “Deck the Halls”… you’ll get to hear all your holiday favorites unlike you ever have before.
