You Have To Try This Outdoor Bootcamp In Ottawa This Week

Secret Ottawa is launching a series highlighting the incredible local workout studios around this city. With the relaxation of restrictions on June 14th to allow for outdoor workouts, many of our favourite studios have shifted gears and launched fun classes to adhere to the health guidelines. 

 

Mighty Maestro, a local studio, has been running their outdoor bootcamps for nine years now. Last week’s re-opening for outdoor group workouts has meant that Jordan, and the rest of the team, have re-launched these enormously popular classes. To show for it, Mighty Maestro Fitness was named Ottawa’s Best Bootcamp by FACES Magazine in 2021.

Last year, when the province first shut down, the team shifted to allowing only 10 people per class. Three classes run everyday, back to back, at Mooney’s Bay, and now, Green’s Creek. Last summer, the bootcamps ran from June, all the way until November – really proving how much everyone was itching for both the social aspect and health benefits of these classes.

 

Really, one of the best parts about one of these workouts is the engagement with the welcoming and fun fitness and martial arts community. Each of their workouts is for all ability levels. Whether this is your first workout out of quarantine (or ever), Jordan and the other instructors will be there for support and modifications. Every one of Mighty Maestro’s outdoor workouts is a fantastic opportunity to meet people after months of lockdown, while doing something good for your body and mind.

Typically classes would include cross-fit style workouts with slam balls and weights, but as of right now, they’re choosing to avoid the shared contact additions to workouts. Instead, they are focusing on body weight and hill exercises that focus on developing every part of the body, from your toes to your shoulders. The typical workout includes drills for ankle and knee mobility and strength training, along with the hill portion cardio. 

 

This year, they’ve been watching the weekly updates on restrictions and have been very respectful and cautious in following all the provincial health authority’s guidelines. Luckily, Mighty Maestro’s versatile and engaging workouts have enabled them to continue their classes at both locations.
