65% of Canadians are in favour of temporarily closing all non-essential businesses & services for the holidays.
Remember that lockdown we had at the beginning of the year? Well, it turns out that a majority of Canadians would be fine with some of those measures coming back for the holidays. As reflected by the results of a recent poll conducted by Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies, 65% of Canadians would support a general lockdown in their province/territory, including shutting down non-essential businesses and services for the holiday season.
Although optimism has been growing in Canada following the arrival of the country’s first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines and the first doses being administered, the people have spoken and it appears many Canadians would prefer some short term pain for long term gains.
1,528 Canadians were randomly recruited from Leger’s online panel to ensure a representative sample of Canada’s population. The survey results also reveal that 76% of Canadians plan to spend less time holiday shopping in person this year and 57% of Canadians would support forcing large retailers to close the non-essential sections of their stores.
